Minimal Steel Desk Lamp

This lamp began with a simple piece of steel.

While sorting through material in my shop, I came across a piece of flat bar that made me wonder what it could become. I bent it into a lamp, then built and refined several versions until the proportions felt right. The result is a clean, understated design that feels at home on a desk, bookshelf, end table, or kitchen counter.

Formed from a single piece of 2½-inch steel flat bar, each lamp is handcrafted in my Lancaster County shop. A leather base, made from full-grain leather left over from my other products, protects the surface beneath while giving those materials a second life. A simple inline switch and the bulb of your choice complete the design.

I'm happy with how it came out. It may just be that extra touch someone is looking for—a tasteful lamp that makes a home feel more complete without becoming the center of attention.
